More so than ever before, women are shaving or trimming their pubic hair. But are we to oppose Mother Nature’s all-knowingness and possibly paying a precious price in the process?
Pubic shaving originated in ancient Egypt and Greece, when prostitutes had to shave for both hygienic reasons and as a clear sign of their job. Although female body removal was established as the norm between 1915 and 1945, pubic hair removal did not actually gain a strong support until the 1980’s.
1. Pubic hair helps control your body temperature
Hair follicles help with body sweating. There is a sebaceous gland on each hair follicle which inhibits the releases oils onto the hair, which allows the oil, go up to the skin’s surface. When this oil evaporates, it cools the skin because of its hidden heat.
2. Pubic hair actually protects you
Including other protections, it helps in preventing foreign particles like dust and pathogenic bacteria from entering your body.
3. Pubic hair contains pheromones
Scientists are of the belief that pubic hair retains sexual secretions that are known to as pheromones. The body gives off more pheromones as you sweat and those secretions are retained in the pubic hair area.
4. Higher risk for genital warts
In a female, it is located on or outside the genital area, vagina, cervix, or anus, in male means near or on the penis, scrotum, or anus. If you remove your pubic hair, you are putting yourself at a higher risk of contracting genital warts.
5. Prone to catch molluscum contagiosum (viral infection)
Shaving or waxing your pubic hair is giving you a higher risk of contracting a viral infection. Research has shown that hairless genitals may provide possible transmission of sexually transmitted diseases like molluscum to take hold, with shaving showing the strongest association.
6. Can cause skin problems in your private area
Removal of pubic hair certainly irritates the hair follicles, leaving open wounds. Frequent hair removal may cause regular irritation of the shaved or waxed area.
The time you spent in removing hair like waxing and shaving shows that it takes 2 months of your life time. These wasted time we’re not able to come back.
For these reasons above, it is in your best interest not to attempt pubic hair removal, or to put a stop to it if you are already on the regular basis of doing so.
